I've always been a huge super hero fan but only really started reading comics about 6 months ago. I love Spider-man and am currently reading - Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man, Avenging Spider-Man, Ultimate Comics, X-Men and Avengers: The X-Sanction as well as filling in the gaps with Death of Spider-Man. I want to start reading more but don't know where to begin, can you throw some suggestions out there with issues that won't leave me in the middle of a story-arc? Thanks

HmmmmmM! You’re on track with some great books. Let’s seeee…

Ultimate Comics The Ultimates is worth catching up on the first 5 or so issues. So terrific.

Pick up the X-Men: Schism limited series and then dive into the “Regenesis” X-books. There was a big paradigm shift for the X-Men titles and they’re all great. Wolverine and the X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants, Uncanny X-Force, X-Factor, Wolverine, X-Men Legacy, etc. Really terrific. And they’ll be good for when you most assuredly dive into Avengers Vs. X-Men in a few months. :)

Try some Avengers books, as well. Secret Avengers had some GREAT done-in-one stories by Warren Ellis and various artists recently. And now Rick Remender is coming on as new writer—that’s a great jumping-on point.

Amazing Spider-Man, Punisher and Daredevil are all quite superb. DD & Punisher are still in single digit issue numbers. And with ASM, you can jump in with the “Big Time” story or before or after “Spider-Island.”

Start there and lemme know what you think after.

Check out Paolo Rivera’s cover to the upcoming DAREDEVIL #9:

Oh, also, a subscription to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited will let you catch up with LOTS AND LOTS of great comics without breakin’ the bank. Just sayin’. :)
