Hello Ryan dear. This is Mrs.Hiddleston here. My treasure Tom gifted me a new Thor2 Loki picture for Mother's Day but silly me, I've gone and misplaced it. Could you just go ahead and post another on your darling blog dear? Ta muchly, stop by for tea and scones the next time you're in London. ttfn, Mrs.H x

This is my favorite random request for me to post an image from Thor: The Dark World. (Although, Mother’s Day isn’t until May…except it’s in March in the UK, I’m told…nevermind!) Kudos!

…and, no, I ain’t postin’ anything yet!

Agent M: need advice on reading order please! I have the following: 1) Straczynski's three vols of Thor 2) Gillen's Thor Ultimate Collection 3) Siege Prelude 4) Siege 5) Thor: The World Easters 6) Fraction's 3 vols of Mighty Thor 7) Avengers Prime 8) and then Journey into Mystery V1-4/Mighty Thor Everything Burns. Are they in correct order? Am I missing anything vital?! Thx! J'

I had to enlist the help of Ben Morse, my This Week in Marvel co-host who’s Editor of Marvel.com and one of the most knowledgeable comic dudes I know. His only note was to read Avengers Prime directly after Siege. Go forth and get your Thor on!

Update: Notes from others include: “There’s also JiM/New Mutants: Exiled, which goes between v3 and v4 of JiM.” and “He also needs to throw Fear Itself and Fear Itself: Journey Into Mystery in there, after @mattfraction’s Mighty Thor vol. 1.”

Which new Marvel movie are you most excited for?

Anonymous

That’s hellaciously tough to answer! Let’s size ‘em up:

Iron Man 3 - I’ve read the script and I’ve seen what’s coming. So hyped.

The Wolverine - I went to the set twice and was SUPER impressed by the cast and crew. So much potential there.

Thor: The Dark World - One of my favorite Marvel movie scripts I’ve ever read. Absolutely terrific. Did a set visit and saw lots of rad things (which I can’t talk about yet).

Guardians of the Galaxy - Concepts look great and the team behind it is solid, but I don’t know much more yet.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - You don’t even know. You. Don’t. Even. Know. ‘Nuff said. Zippin’ my lips right now.

sequel to The Avengers - You know it’s going to be crazy good. So ready.

Ant-Man - I believe in Edgar Wright.

sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man - I know very little about it, but I have hopes!

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Very excited! I loved First Class and the rest, so there’s all kinds of cool stuff they can do with this.

So, to answer your question, all of them.

Sooooo when are you gonna be writing some comics or (forgive my possible ignorance) have you already done some?

I wrote a 3-page holiday Skrull story for our 2008 Marvel Digital Holiday Special. It was drawn by the incredibly amazing Juan Doe. I called it “Last Christmas” because I love that WHAM! song so much. Seriously.

As for other comics, I don’t think so. That was a fun endeavor, but I really quite enjoy the stuff I do and I don’t have that itch to write comics or fiction of some sort. At least not at this point.

I someone has an idea for superheroes how would they o about getting that to marvel. I daydream a lot and I have come up with a few superheroes that I think could be valid marvel characters. I have come up with strengths, weaknesses, and back stories I even think they can fit into niches that are not filled. I honestly think they could fit into the marvel universe(and I wouldn't have them in any other comic). Does marvel take fans ideas?

bob10001

Great question, and one that I’ve been asked before. The answer: No. We do not accept unsolicited ideas or submissions. I’m just going to copy the official language from Marvel.com:

Marvel does not accept or consider any ideas, creative suggestions, artwork, designs, game proposals, scripts, manuscripts, or similar material unless we have specifically requested it from you. Marvel is continuously developing and creating its own ideas and materials, and we don’t have the resources to review or respond to unsolicited material. Unfortunately, any unsolicited material you send will not be read or shared. It will be destroyed, and it will not be returned.

While we can’t accept your unsolicited submissions, please know that Marvel is always looking for new comic book artists and writers. We constantly read and review indie, self-published, creator-owned, and web-comics, review popular online art communities, ask other artists for opinions and recommendations, and host portfolio reviews at conventions from time to time. If you are an aspiring comic book artist or writer, we suggest you publish or publicly post your material, continue to create, and if you have the right stuff…we’ll find you.”

1. Does Marvel HQ have a kitchen/cafe for employees? 2. If yes, how does one find out about working there? 3. If no to number 1, what are the chances of them having space in their budget to have one and hiring a chef whom is also passionate about Marvel?

thatguydaveconfer

1. We have a kitchen area that consists of a few small tables, two microwaves and two fridges.

2. We don’t have anyone working for a kitchen area.

3. 0% chance.

BUT! We love food. To all chefs who are Marvel fans, hit up me and @CBCebulski / Eataku. We do some cool stuff with chefs and restaurants when we can!

Hi Ryan! I've got a question about your job. I guess you already know you have the coolest job on this planet so I was wondering how did you even get it in the first place. I mean, what college did you finish? What qualifications were they looking for first time you applied for a job at Marvel? I'm nearly done with my college and I really want to find a job connected with comic books so that's why I ask. Any help from you would be great! Thanks man!

I covered how I got my job at Marvel in my FAQ!

You’ll hear any number of us at Marvel say (as borrowed from…Mark Waid, maybe?), “Breaking into comics is like breaking out of jail. Once someone does it one way, that specific way is forever closed to others.” Which means, no two people have the same way of getting a job at Marvel or comics.

Jobs and required skill-sets are so varied, there’s no simple way to say “this is what you need to know and do.” I started out doing content primarily about comics for Marvel.com as Associate Editor and my role has grown and changed tremendously in six years and now touches on every line of business for Marvel as a whole.

Good luck!

Hello Ryan, I've been an avid comics reader since I was 8, and a film nut since high school. Owing to this, my dream job is to work at Marvel Studios in any capacity. Hell, I would be the janitor if need be. That said, as a graduate I find myself in the unfortunate position of being ineligible for Marvel internships. Do you have any advice on how I could go about achieving this dream without the benefit of Marvel internship experience? ~J

hollywoodexperiment

Hey J! Great question and, honestly, it’s not easy. 1. SO many people want to work at Marvel Studios in some capacity or another. 2. It’s still a relatively small crew and thus, open positions aren’t plentiful. 3. As you noted, internships are the best way in. Be sure to follow @TWDCjobs on Twitter as they tweet openings as well has link directly to all Marvel jobs across all lines of business. All I can say is keep your eyes peeled, apply for any jobs that you think may fit your experience and hope for the best. In the meantime, get out there and work. Get other gigs and experience under your belt and build that resume. Make it so Marve would be foolish NOT to hire you if you ever apply. Good luck!

I have a PhD in genetics and am thinking about a career change. I seem to have a better memory and interest in superheroes and comics than just about anything else (including genetics). Its a shot in the dark, but any chance that Marvel could use a geneticist or at least someone that went to school for a long time with a scientific skill set?

Anonymous

So you’re Mister Sinister?

image

:D As for making a career change into comics, there’s no specific gig for a geneticist. But comic book editors come from all different backgrounds. We’ve had people with theater, journalism, drama, English and way more varied degrees and backgrounds come to work at Marvel. I can’t say for sure one way or another if you could make the move, to be honest. If you have a PhD, I imagine you have a good grasp on the English language. Maybe? Probably? Do you know storytelling? Lots of factors. Apply and see what happens!

ARe you Greek? What's with the tacos?

Anonymous

I am American of Colombian, Irish and German descent. Not Greek, though the name does seem rather Greek. (Sorry, Chris Eliopoulos.) There’s a Penagos in Cantabria, Spain. How about that?! And tacos are just wonderful. Who doesn’t like a delicious taco?

What’s with the questions?

Here’s what came up when I Googled “greek tacos”:

how do you feel about The Shield and the general direction of the WWE lately?

ohmygil

I dig The Shield! Mostly because I really like Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. Roman Reigns is cool and I’m looking forward to seeing more from him, but Rollins and Ambrose are just terrific.

image

As for WWE, I’m diggin’ it. Lots of good tag teams, a bunch of great workers across their various shows such as del Rio, a bunch of the NXT dudes, Cesaro and more. Definitely looking forward to the Rumble and then Mania. You?
